Minnesota Vikings @ Chicago Bears 8:15pm EST
The Bears have a strong case to cover +3 at home, largely due to the upgrades on their offensive line with Joe Thuney and Drew Dalman, which should give Caleb Williams cleaner pockets against Minnesota’s blitz-heavy defense. Chicago also benefits from the absence of Harrison Smith, leaving a vulnerable spot in the Vikings’ secondary that Williams can exploit with his growing chemistry in year two. Ben Johnson’s arrival as head coach adds an innovative offensive scheme that is designed to counter high-pressure defenses, neutralizing some of Brian Flores’ blitzing edge. The Bears’ defensive front, bolstered by Grady Jarrett, should be able to slow down a Vikings rushing attack that lacks consistency, especially if Christian Darrisaw isn’t 100%. While Minnesota has the skill talent advantage with Justin Jefferson, their reliance on a rookie QB in J.J. McCarthy makes them far more volatile in a hostile divisional road environment. Altogether, Chicago’s improved line play, coaching upgrade, and home underdog status give them the tools to stay within three points or even steal the game outright. I WANT NOTHING TO DO WITH A QB MAKING DEBUT ON THE ROAD, IN WEEK 1 OF NFL. I don’t love this game, I’m only putting a half unit.
