I don’t love tonight’s sleight. So I have 2 plays for you. I lean a little bit more towards Arizona, so that will be my main play. But I think Houston wins as well.

Arizona has a strong chance to win because its defense has opened the season by not allowing a single touchdown, showing the kind of discipline and consistency under new defensive coordinator Danny Gonzales that can frustrate Kansas State’s offense. Playing at home in Tucson on Retro Night adds to the advantage, with the crowd and atmosphere expected to provide a major energy boost in what should be a close game. Offensively, new coordinator Seth Doege has already made the scheme more dynamic, putting quarterback Noah Fifita in positions to be efficient and explosive, which has been evident even against early softer opponents. On the other side, Kansas State comes in off a draining loss to Army where time of possession, red zone execution, and injuries were all concerns, raising questions about their ability to handle Arizona’s tempo and depth. Arizona’s staff has also had a year to adjust after Avery Johnson’s dual-threat performance burned them last season, and the defense is expected to key on containing his mobility and forcing the Wildcats into longer drives. With stronger depth across the offensive line, secondary, and through impact transfers, Arizona looks better built to sustain pressure throughout four quarters, giving them the edge to finish the game stronger at home.

Colorado @ Houston 7:30pm EST
Houston has a clear edge thanks to its dominant defense, which ranks near the top nationally in pass EPA allowed and has already smothered two opponents this season. The Cougars’ offense is steadier behind QB Conner Weigman and RB Dean Connors, and they should benefit from late-game stamina in the humid home conditions. With Willie Fritz’s experienced staff bringing stability against Colorado’s new-look roster and unproven quarterback, Houston is well-positioned to control the tempo and secure the win.
