Running back Emmett Johnson has been the engine of the offense, rushing for over 1,000 yards and averaging nearly six yards per carry, which gives the Cornhuskers a reliable way to control tempo and sustain drives. UCLA’s defense, on the other hand, has been porous, allowing nearly 380 yards per game and over five yards per play, a weakness that Nebraska’s run-heavy scheme is well-equipped to exploit. The Cornhuskers also benefit from a stronger strength of schedule and more consistent coaching under Matt Rhule, while UCLA continues to deal with instability following its midseason coaching changes. Nebraska’s defense and special teams have shown greater discipline and balance, allowing them to win the field position and possession battles that often decide close games.
