Abilene Christian is built to hang inside numbers as an underdog because their defensive pressure and turnover creation travel well, and SFA has already shown stretches of sloppiness when forced into a faster, chaotic tempo. ACU’s rebounding advantage—especially with Joseph Scott on the glass—gives them extra possessions, which is a huge factor against an SFA team that relies heavily on perimeter shooting and can go cold for long stretches. Their offensive balance, with Hubbard attacking downhill and Dye spacing the floor at over 50% from three, ensures ACU can score in multiple ways rather than relying on any one matchup. In tight games, ACU has a clear edge at the free-throw line, shooting around 73% as a team compared to SFA’s early-season struggles in the low 60s. Because SFA’s biggest scoring swings come from three-point variance, ACU’s style—attacking the rim, controlling pace, and forcing turnovers—naturally reduces blowout risk and keeps possessions closer. With all those factors, plus a projected game script where ACU’s physicality keeps them within one or two possessions most of the night, +7.5 is too many points for a matchup this even.
