St. Louis vs VCU 7:00pm EST

VCU is in a strong position to win this matchup because their identity is built around controlling tempo and turning games uncomfortable for opponents, something St. Louis has struggled with against high-pressure teams. The Rams’ aggressive ball pressure disrupts timing early in possessions, forcing rushed decisions and increasing turnover chances, which fuels VCU’s transition offense and creates scoring spurts that are hard to stop. Offensively, VCU is not reliant on one scorer, allowing them to attack St. Louis in multiple ways through dribble penetration, kick-out threes, and second-chance points. That balance becomes critical as the game wears on, because St. Louis cannot simply adjust defensively to shut down one primary option. On the glass, VCU’s physicality and willingness to crash offensively creates extra possessions, which both boosts scoring efficiency and wears down St. Louis’ frontcourt over time. Defensively in the half court, VCU does a strong job shrinking driving lanes and contesting shots without fouling, forcing opponents into tough mid-range attempts late in the shot clock. Situationally, VCU has shown better composure in close games, particularly late, where their decision-making, ball security, and defensive intensity tend to sharpen rather than fade. As fatigue sets in, St. Louis becomes more vulnerable to pressure, while VCU thrives in chaotic stretches where effort and depth matter most. When you combine VCU’s tempo control, defensive disruption, rebounding edge, offensive balance, and late-game execution, the Rams have multiple paths to separate and close out a win tonight.
