PERSONAL PLAY:

College Basketball:

Robert Morris @ Cleveland State 7:00pm EST

Cleveland State is a strong “cover + upset” candidate because the market has them as a +3.5 home dog at the Wolstein Center, with a plus-money ML (around +146), which bakes in plenty of cushion in a game expected to be played at a high-possession pace (total ~152.5).

In a higher-total game, every possession matters less and points become more valuable, so taking +3.5 is attractive if Cleveland State can simply trade runs and keep it within one possession late.

The path to covering starts with Cleveland State cleaning up self-inflicted mistakes—because their season profile shows they turn it over a lot (13.5 per game), so even a modest improvement in ball security swings a tight spread game.

Matchup-wise, Robert Morris’ biggest built-in edge is on the glass (they’re +7.0 rebounds per game), so if Cleveland State can gang-rebound and limit second-chance points, they can neutralize the Colonials’ easiest “free offense.”

Cleveland State’s offense also gets to the line at a decent clip (17.2 FTs per game), and free throws are exactly what you want as a home underdog to stop momentum and score with the clock not moving.

If Robert Morris’ lead guard play gets sloppy under pressure—both teams live in the 11–13 turnover-per-game range—Cleveland State’s home energy can turn a couple live-ball takeaways into quick 4–6 point swings that flip the game script.

Finally, keep an eye on Cleveland State availability (there are reports of key pieces listed questionable), but if their main rotation is intact, the combination of home court + points + a clear “win the margins” blueprint (rebounds, turnovers, free throws) gives them a real shot to win outright.

1 Unit Play: Cleveland State +4
