Even though Providence enters tonight’s game with a 7-5 record compared to Seton Hall’s 10-1, Providence has played a noticeably tougher overall slate — their strength of schedule is stronger than many peers and suggests they’ve been tested more often against quality competition, which can better prepare them for high-level games like this one.  Playing a harder schedule can expose weaknesses early and force a team to improve, meaning Providence’s record might understate how battle-tested and resilient they actually are. Seton Hall’s impressive record is partly a product of facing comparatively less difficult opponents outside the Big East, which can inflate win totals without providing the same kind of growth Providence has experienced. Providence’s offensive efficiency — scoring at a high clip — combined with their familiarity with elite Big East defenses all season makes them less likely to be fazed by tonight’s competitive environment.  Additionally, recent trends show Providence has had success against Seton Hall historically and in tight games, indicating they match up well schematically and aren’t intimidated by the Pirates’ strong defense.  Finally, a tougher schedule also tends to correlate with better in-game adjustments and resilience under pressure, traits that could be the difference in a close contest tonight.
