The Cubs are in a strong position to beat the Giants tonight thanks to a decisive edge on the mound, where Matthew Boyd enters with a 2.61 ERA and 1.04 WHIP compared to Justin Verlander’s inflated 4.64 ERA and 1.44 WHIP since joining San Francisco. The Giants have also struggled mightily against left-handed pitching, ranking near the bottom of the league, which plays directly into Boyd’s strengths. Chicago’s offense has been red-hot during an 8–2 stretch, with Seiya Suzuki, Pete Crow-Armstrong, Michael Busch, and Kyle Tucker all producing at a high level. Rookie Matt Shaw has added another spark, slashing .298/.343/.691 since mid-July, showing improved mechanics and power that bolster the Cubs’ lineup. Analytical models and expert picks give Chicago around a 55–58% win probability, leaning toward the Cubs on both the moneyline and run line.
