San Diego Padres @ Los Angeles Dodgers 10:10pm EST

The Padres enter tonight’s matchup against the Dodgers riding a five-game winning streak, while Los Angeles has stumbled with a 12–21 record since July 4, creating a setup for an offense-heavy game. San Diego’s lineup, led by Fernando Tatis Jr. and Luis Arráez, has been scorching at the plate, while the Dodgers still boast Shohei Ohtani, one of the league’s most dangerous hitters at home. On the mound, the Padres will turn to Randy Vasquez in place of the injured Michael King, and his 5.98 expected ERA signals major vulnerability against a deep Dodgers order. Clayton Kershaw starts for Los Angeles, but his strikeout rate has dropped to 5.8 per nine innings, and he’s only reached four or more strikeouts once in his last six starts, giving the Padres plenty of contact opportunities. Dodger Stadium has historically produced higher-scoring games, and with the betting total set at 9 to 9.5, oddsmakers clearly anticipate offensive fireworks. With both lineups in strong form and neither starting pitcher in peak condition, this game has all the makings of a back-and-forth slugfest that pushes well over the nine-run mark. Now the line opened at 8.5 so that’s what I’m taking it at.
